Rant: You Dont Even Know Me 2008

So you probably have heard these two tracks if you havent been living under a rock the past couple of months. We have one called "You Don't Even Know Us" by Sharvais and the other is called "Runnin'" remixed by Funkagenda and Mark Knight.

I'm going to keep this short and simple (or try to).

If you are sampling a funky disco house (and soulful in a way), don't try and make it tech house or minimal in a way because it won't gel together (Or maybe it could, just not in these tracks). These two tracks would sound alot better without the samples in them. They just sound out of place and like they don't belong in the song. On top of this, they both sampled the same EXACT thing. It's one loop of strings that goes OVER and OVER.....and OVER again. Come on, you couldn't sample anything else from the song and put it in the track? Especially in the Sharvais version. The break is the same loop over and over with volume fades in and out. Seriously, you couldn't be anymore creative? It literally takes 2 minutes to do this in Logic or any other program used for creating songs. They do one of the easiest breaks you could possibly do in a track.
What trash! Its either they had to meet a steep deadline or they just
need to stop being lazy.

Sharam/Gervais are (supposedly) great producers. I never really got why everyone is all over Sharam. At best, I think his songs are boring. Cedric on the other hand isn't bad at all. "Spirit In My Life" was a monster track and "Let's Take Drugs" is a club banger for sure. So for being pretty popular, you would think they put some work into this song, right? Not the case. They murdered a classic song.

I have the formula to both of these songs. Lets take what is popular now (tech house) and throw an Armand Van Helden sample in (classic) and hope it sells like crazy because it has "You Don't Even Know Me" in the song. Forget what it sounds like, we just want to make paper.

This is exactly what happened.

And on a side note, I could NOT believe "Runnin'" hit #1 on Beatport charts. Worst #1 song in Beatport history, easily. Find me one that was worst and I'll take it back.

Funny thing is, this song is not on Beatport anymore.

I wonder why.

Anyways,

That's my rant. Stay tuned in for my next blog.
